Questioning Scientism

Matthew B Crawford has degrees in physics and political philosophy. He is a senior fellow at the University of Virginia’s Institute for Advanced Studies in Culture. Unherd published his piece How science has been corrupted: the pandemic has revealed a darkly authoritarian side to expertise and he gave an excellent interview with Freddie Sayers in the same link.

Pharmaceutical companies have, on a significant scale, paid physicians to praise, recommend and prescribe their products, and recruited researchers to put their names to articles ghost-written by the firms which are then placed in scientific and professional journals. Worse, the clinical trials whose results are relied upon by federal agencies in deciding whether to approve drugs as safe and effective are generally conducted or commissioned by the pharmaceutical companies themselves“.

Different opinions, discussion, questioning, debate and critical analysis are only heresy in totalitarian states. They are necessary in the (once) free world, for new knowledge and course correction on erroneous policy and false truths. Without them, corruption and criminality get to lead the way.

Robert F Kennedy Jr has just published a book, The Real Anthony Fauci: Bill Gates, Big Pharma and the Global War on Democracy and Public Health. Here he talks about it with Senta Depuydt of Children’s Health Defense in Europe. “The distressing thing for me is that the liberalism that I grew up in … many many traditional liberal values, the values of critical thinking, constitutional rights, freedom of speech, due process, jury trials, justice, tolerance, patience, intellectual curiosity, intellectual integrity. All of those things have now been abandoned. There is no more critical thinking. We are immersed in a kind of tribalism where if Tony Fauci says something, it has to be true, if Donald Trump says something it has to be false, and vice versa. And nobody is really doing critical thinking. And in the United States I’ve seen the liberal party which was always the champion of constitutional rights, walk away from all of our constitutional rights. They’ve become the advocates for censorship…“.

Look beyond the “it’s safe and effective” mantra and ask some questions. Listen to some of the doctors and scientists out there who have a different view, who have been censored.“. NZ GP Dr Alison Goodwin, 3 July 2021

  1. Dear Helen

Further to my recent comment on your latest post, I would like to say the following.

Firstly, I think the last photo says it all. Very funny too! So many people have lost the plot over Covid 19 as they have been deluded into thinking (if think they have which I doubt very much), that Covid 19 is any more than the seasonal ‘flu.

Big pharma are a major problem although they are the fronts for the shady ones hidden underneath. Although in relativity the so-called hidden are hidden in plain sight, like Bill Gates and George Soros.

Why no one asks sensible questions seems bizarre. My own family seem dumb on this issue. Even my wife does not really believe me but then she has had certain issues to deal with regarding her sister which she has clung onto for at least 60 years. She is beginning to tackle these but it is hard when you leave things so long.

Still, I remain positive as I know all will be well in the end and more people are waking up to the truth. I include my Covid Summary again which I hope will be OK.

  2. Your photo makes a good point. I was thinking about the lack of balance in the media too. Gruesome photos of people dying of Covid, day after day, but not gruesome photos of people dying and suffering as a result of the vaccinations. But the voyeurism on suffering is a new despicable trend. We don’t get the same on cancer deaths, childbirth deaths, car accident deaths, operation failure deaths, etc, nor should we. Some of the cultural changes brought about on the excuse of Covid are vile. But I suppose ramping up the horror was needed to scare people.
